Department at a Glance

The department was established in 1948 with the introduction of Intermediate teaching in science for girls. Ms Pratima Sanyal headed the the department for 33 years. She had obtained her P G degree from Culcutta University and was a student of Prof. Meghnath Saha and Prof. S N Bose. She had relentlessly worked towards the empowerment of women. She has donated a sum of Rs. 100000 to the department to encourage the meritorious students in Physics. The B Sc classes were started in 1966. Ours was the first college to start science teaching at the graduation level for girls in Bihar.
Dr Padmavathy Srinivasan succeeded Ms Pratima Sanyal in 1979 as Head of the Department and Honours teaching was introduced in 1980.
The department was instrumental in setting up a separate Computer Applications Laboratory where vocational courses are now run under the supervision of Dr Dolly Sinha. She is also engaged by the Academic Staff College, Patna University to work as a resource person  on IT for the UGC sponsored Refresher and Orientation Courses for University teachers.
